Names, names, names

Thank you all for your suggestions. Some thoughts, in no particular order:

  • Someone suggested "booboo linux". While I feel praised, I don't think it's fair. Yes, I've put quite a bunch of work on this, but remember that I did all on top of the linux code base and the Ingenic patches. I you think of it, my contribution is comparatively tiny. I'm standing on the shoulders of giants.
  • Not any name will do. The domain must be available. I've put the name in the dual-boot splash screen and I think it's a great way to promote the project, but for that to be effective it must lead to a web page. I love "lingoo", but is not available. Chances of a short name like "dix", being available are also close to none (and yes, being a non native english speaker it was not immediately obvious to me what it sounds like).
  • What about "dingux" ?. The domain is available.

Again, your comments are highly welcome.

UPDATE: changed to DINGUX. Some don't like how it sounds, but seemed a good blend of dingoo and linux and I want to focus on coding. The domain is now www.dingux.com, please update your links.

  1. Damn, you are naive, "dix" means "dicks", the user who suggest it was kidding, it would be funny to rename lingoox with something even worse.

  2. Dingux is pretty cool, and as a native English speaker I don't hear anything suggestive about it.

  4. Dingux, why not.

  11. DinGNU has got to be my personal favorite thus far, it's a clever play on words & represents the objective well. Lingoo gets my second, but since it's unavailable Lingoo-X is a good alternative. I don't like the sound of Dingux at all. I'd also like to throw in "Dinboo" & "Linboo" as they both pay tribute to booboo, as well as "Dinux" & "DinLin".

  18. I, although i recognize booboo's work, don't think is fair as he well said, to all the people who will be working on Linux and have worked on it for all this time, the concept of Linux, and the way it will be unfolding its not a one man job.

    Dinguin is the best.

  19. DingOS is ok for me. What about Linux4Dingoo, or LxD?

  20. Linux4Dingoo seems good. What we need is a keyword that uniquely identifies the project so that it becomes easy to search on ytube or google.

  21. Also, Linux4Dingoo is self-explanatory.

  22. lol the keyword for Linux4Dingoo could be L4D, and then we can get all those zombie fans onto the Dingoo lol.

Dingux is really beginning to grow on me, don't bother changing it now, no matter what others say.

  25. perhaps it would have appealed to more folks to have a poll for the name...but ultimately it doesn't matter ;o) ah well, dingux it is.
